Polling Stations Management System

Introduction

Tight communication between election managers and staff at gross root level (polling staff) is very essential in conducting and managing elections. Communication between polling staff at polling station and election managers becomes too trivial due to the size of the activity performed in single day. The need for having a system through which data from the polling station can be collected within no time to perform the required action was always needed.

The idea of developing a system in which the polling staff can communicate the activities at the polling stations within no time with minimal efforts was studied and numerous stakeholders were consulted. After these consultations a “Polling Station Management System” (PSMS) has been developed.

What is PSMS?

PSMS is an IT based system with two major components i.e. a mobile app (both for Android and iOS) and a web based application. The mobile app will be installed by the polling staff and the polling station for recording and sending information about the events occur at polling station. The mobile app can also be installed by the Security personnel for reporting security related issues/events.

The web-based application will be installed in offices of the ROs, DROs, DECs, RECs, PECs and ECP Secretariat through which all data coming from the relevant polling stations will be viewed for taking required action.

How will it work?

Installation of PSMS Mobile app

The PSMS mobile app will be made available to the polling staff and security personnel for installation. This can either be through the Google Play and Apple Stores or ECP website.

User Registration

A fundamental task in the entire system is the user registration. All users, from ECP management to polling staff, should be registered to use the system. For every user category several type of information will be required. The following table shows the information required for each category of the user.
